Hello, Ruby Tuesday! Sextant Grenache Rose
For this week's Ruby Tuesday, I scoured nearby wine paradise Edna Valley for the absolute best in Central Coast ros. I discovered Sextant. Truth be told, I went to Sextant partly because my new roommates have about a thousand Sextant wine glasses, I'd heard the name mentioned positively before, and I was intrigued.
When I told the gentleman pouring tastings that I was writing a series on ross, his response was, "Have you tried ours yet? You need to try ours."
The Sextant 2012 Ros, 100% grenache, is smooth, supple and flirty. She has a lovely rosy pink blush and smells of raspberries. The sip is initially silky sweet, with flavors of strawberries, raspberries and almonds, but this ros finishes sassy, with a kick of liquorice that sticks with you long after the last sip. She's definitely a dry ros, with a nice balanced acidity that would pair well with a grilled chicken.
As I finished the last sip, the tasting room attendant came back to check on me. Leaning one arm on the counter, he said, "Well, what do you think? Five stars?"
I nodded and smiled. "Five stars."
